About Us Founded by Terry and Annette Walters in 1991, from humble beginnings the business grew as a result of Terry and Annette’s commitment to customer service, value for money, community, their staff and sheer hard work! Due to the growth of the business a new, more expansive store was constructed in 2000. The store's achievements were officially recognised in 2001 by the winning IGA International Retailer of the year – no mean feat! Terry and Annette were joined by Adam and Maree Westbury in 2003 with a view to expanding the business and establishing new stores. The first stores added to the group were Tully, (North Queensland) Rasmussen, Garbutt and Mundingburra (Townsville) in 2003 and then Bamford Lane (Townsville) in 2005. The following year both the Rasmussen and Garbutt stores were completely refurbished and with the acquisition of 2 more Townsville sites: Castletown and Sunland (formally Action stores) during 2006, the group had grown to 8 stores. With the opening of Walter's Supa IGA Mt Isa in January 2008, the group has become one of Queensland’s leading independent retailers providing employment for many hundreds of people. Whilst the business may have grown the principals upon which it was built remain unchanged, both Terry and Annette are very much involved with the day to day activities of the business and remain committed to providing excellent customer service, value for money and community involvement in all their stores.
